Max Wallmeier

In 2022, I took part of choreographer and dancer Max Wallmeier’s research series In the Wake, which consisted of three duets. Wallmeier’s interest lies in how reversibility as a movement concept can challenge and widen our perception of time. Each process was influenced by the previous one and happened in its wake. The title also refers to his approach to reversibility: If reversing is always possible, then where you move might also be the retracing of a pathway already taken in reverse.

The work was developed by making set movement sequences that could be reversed in both directions and executed at different points in the space.
This work requires patience, detail-orientation, and a passion for nerdy movement research. Precision, accuracy, and the capability of staying in a pattern for a longer amount of time are useful skills to hold on to as a dancer.
