Web design by Sanghoon Lee føremørk (work in progress)
‘føremørk’ is a new piece by Emilie Marie Karlsen and I, and our second work together as a dance duo. ‘føremørk’ is a self-invented Norwegian fantasy word that indicates the threshold between darkness and light, night and day, and the transition into something otherworldly and unknown.
As for now, the material is choreographed in an invisible grid with passion for movement synchronization and precision; made for two bodies who eventually build a world with fleshy, grotesque objects and strange foamy things. An extra ear is attached to one, while the other is pulling something across the floor that looks like an overdimensional head. It’s partly real, partly wild and out of character. ‘føremørk’ asks: Can we open up a new understanding of the body, where we can both go into and out of ourselves, negotiate with proximity and distance to our own body? Can it create an exchange that enhances the body's ability to communicate multiple layers of emotions and identities? And if so, how can this negotiation be transferred to other relationships and people in our lived lives?
It is made in close collaboration with musician, Lars Takla, scenographer/costume designer, Hazel Barstow, dramaturg Roza Moshtaghi, light designer, Jonas Mailand and choreographic out-side-eye, Max Wallmeier. The work premieres at Regional Arena for Samtidsdans in Sandnes, Norway in February 2026.
